Microsoft office programs xp to 7 compatibillty

i am upgrading my pc to windows 7 from xp, but i'm not sure whether any files i create using ms word, publisher etc will be compatible with ms office on xp. my schools computers operate on xp, and as i used to run vista i know there can be problems getting a file created on one to work with another. but is it the same for windows 7. do i just have to save it as a certain file type on one for it to work with the other?

I think I'm understanding you.
The file is created by the software, not the OS so an upgrade from XP to Windows 7 will make no difference at all.

If you have different versions of Office like 97-2003 or 2007 or even the latest at school and at home then save them in the appropriate format.

Later versions are backward compatible and will open all earlier files and will "save as" in the earlier format so they can be opened by the older office versions.

As you have been told earlier. It is the software that creates the files and not the OS.
What you have to note is that if you have created the files using Microsoft office 2007, you can't open the file on Office 2003 package.
You can only open Office 2003 file on 2007.
The operating system will not affect the files.

Are you still using you friends hard drive? When you're trying to install windows does it stop at the same place every time? If it does, make sure the disk isnt scratched or dirty. If it was a virus, it would have been wiped out when you reformatted the hdd.

Hello I once faced the same problem you encountered when I purchased a dell P.4 2.8ghz, 512RAM (256 x 2). I tried installing OS but at a time it will tell me cannot copy file. I tried different XP disc even a new one, all to no avail. I later detected that one of the RAM I installed on it is faulty in the sense that it cannot load the operating but will work fine after OS has been installed. I was able to load the OS after I removed the RAM.

My advice is that you should try an use another RAM when loading OS and make sure installation disc is clean.
